Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

Lasagna Base

  • ½ box Barilla® Wavy Lasagna Noodles (about 9 sheets)
  • 2 jars (48 oz) marinara sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage, cooked and drained

Cheese Mixture

  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (reserve ½ cup for topping)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup chopped spinach (optional)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

Instructions

  1. Prep the Oven and Noodles
Preheat your oven to 375°F. If you’re using classic lasagna noodles, cook them according to the package directions (usually 8–10 minutes). Drain and lay flat on a towel to prevent sticking.

  2. Make the Meat Sauce
In a large skillet, combine the cooked ground beef or sausage with 1½ jars of marinara sauce. Simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.

  3. Mix the Cheese Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, 3½ cups of mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and eggs. Stir until smooth. Add Italian seasoning or spinach if using.

  4. Assemble the Layers
Grease a 13×9 inch baking dish. Spread ¾ cup marinara sauce on the bottom. Layer noodles, half of the cheese mixture, half of the meat sauce, and repeat. Finish with a top layer of noodles, the remaining sauce, and reserved mozzarella.

  5. Bake the Lasagna
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 10 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.

  6. Rest and Serve
Let the lasagna rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers set and makes serving easier.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: You can assemble the lasagna a day in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Freezer Friendly: Freeze before or after baking. Wrap tightly and store for up to 3 months.
  • Vegetarian Option: Skip the meat and add layers of sautéed mushrooms, zucchini, or spinach.
  • No-Boil Noodles: If using oven-ready lasagna sheets, make sure to use extra sauce to ensure noodles soften while baking.
  • Serving Tip: Use a sharp knife and wide spatula for clean slices.
